Who wants to play with the Akoya Mini E1210 is the same password again. This is not the NetBook thought and brings performance and accordingly is not enough. For Office applications, as a media player, surf station for Internet communication and the power goes out but easy. The operating speed is barely lower than on a more expensive business notebooks. Booting to the Windows desktop with 50 seconds lasts significantly longer than the competition. But that is because it uses a specially optimized Linux instead of standard Windows XP.

Much memory and hard disk space

Medion Akoya mini equips wisely with 1 GB of RAM. With 512 MB ​​of the installed Windows XP Home would indeed run well, but not so liquid. The 80-gigabyte hard disk (2.5 inch) Medion has divided into a 66.3-gigabyte big part of your data and a 8.11-GB-wide recovery partition. It contains the recovery image of Windows XP, drivers and some tools. They remain for a total of around 47 GB, which should be quite sufficient for most users in this particular application environment. Moreover, it is about ten times what is available on the Solid State Disk (SSD) of the Acer Aspire One A110L available and more than 20 times compared to the Asus Eee PC 701 4G. However, SSD are more secure because of their impact resistance than traditional hard disk built here.

Performance but humble enough to use

Bluetooth traded against a better Wi-Fi
The only difference between the machine and that of Medion MSI is committed to the ouster of Bluetooth in favor of Wi-Fi standard 802.11n. Large bright display
With the 10-inch display, you can finally work properly. It offers a resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels, enough space to handle small tables, writing letters and e-mails or surf the Internet. Which is certainly contrary to the resolution, since most websites are still on the 1,024 x 768. Since it is also at 187.5 cd / m² is very bright and has 661,9:1 with a high contrast ratio, which makes working on this really fun NetBook and it is good as a mini cinema. For comparison: average business notebooks come to about the same value and the Asus Eee PC 900 just on half (95 cd / m²).

It has the taste of the Wind, it has the smell of the Wind and is based on the same chassis: the Akoya Mini surprised at first by its resemblance to the MSI machine. And for good reason: they are twins, and very clever that could differentiate them if they removed the logos of manufacturers. It is available in black and white, and this latest version we have tested.

It is tempting to make a simple link to the MSI Wind, so both machines are similar. Because they are based on the same hardware platform - an Intel Atom N270 1.6 GHz - and they have the same advantages - 1 GB RAM, 80 GB disk, Intel GMA 950 graphics card etc.. - The exercise would be fairly easy. We find the same keyboard, oh how much more comfortable than the Eee PC, which gives it a pleasant feel and precise typing. Without reaching the quality of a high-end device, the Akoya Mini can honestly be described as success.

The hull of the unit has a good finish, with its simple lines and curves, Playskool look a little around the edges - at least it's timeless. It is quite sturdy, and it is not afraid to slip into a bag and carry it with you all day, even a small bag comes with the machine.

This apparent strength is paid: the baby of 1.2 kg 200 g show more than the Eee PC 901, an overweight little annoying but that marks a difference with some early models from Asus, the symbolic threshold of 1 kg may have important. However, this does nothing to his interest, especially as to have a machine so light, Sony should have over 2000 euros. And if the equipment and the quality is not the same, the Akoya Mini has done its office.

At first glance, the Akoya Mini E1210 will not quite fit into the ranks of the usual discount-cheap laptops.
