Close Unused applications
This tip is the most obvious of all. Check the task-bar for any running application and close all the unused ones as the more programs running the more work for the CPU and invariably running the battery power down. Try not to perform power intensive activities such as playing games or reading a CD-ROM while you are running the system on battery power.

Fully charge a new GATEWAY AS10D73 AS10D75 AS10D81 Battery before using it. This is a tip most all of us already know. New batteries need to be broken in, just like a car engine, before using normally.
Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) can be conditioned to help recover their capacity. To do this completely discharge (deep discharge) and then recharge them every couple of months.
Note: Do not do this to Lithium Ion (Li-Ion) batteries as it will damage them.
