I spoke a few weeks ago now, I wanted to offer me a netbook for my last year at SUPINFO London ... This is now done! My new machine, a Packard Bell Dot M / U was delivered to me a few days ago already, along with a bag a bit special, which I will talk soon (we'll keep it to a future article eh;) . So if you want to know what drove me to choose this model (or just learn more about the beast), it is here it goes!

Why buy a netbook?
If I had to summarize it in one sentence, I would say something like "It's small, lightweight, autonomous, and it allows for 90% of what I do with a traditional PC. "Indeed, with rather small dimensions (28.5 x 20.4 x 2.05 cm) and weighing less than 1, 4kg Aboard still a versatile and well-balanced machine. Gone are the days of netbooks with 7 inch screen and weighs 800 grams and some regret that "overweight" took over the months. In my case we are dealing with a 11.6-inch screen capable of displaying as much information on the screen than my old 15 inch ... this was one of my first criteria: a reasonable screen resolution (by 1366 × 768).
Performance above the average

If you are interested in a little netbook market, you will notice that in recent months had been a bit like the sheets of the available models shared the same characteristics for 90% of them. We basically found: an Intel Atom processor, 1GB of RAM, a 160GB hard drive and a 10 inch screen ... Blame it on Microsoft and Intel, which imposed restrictions on manufacturers.

When you buy a PC "ready to use", it is 98% of the time that ships with Windows, and you usually can not acquire the machine without this system! So you support the purchase of the license for this software even if you do not want to use it. Under French law, it's called tied selling is not allowed. Some associations (such as AFUL Racketiciel.info throughout the site, for example) have long struggled to be able to choose their operating system as an option, but there is still much to do ...

But good news for owners of Packard Bell computers, the manufacturer has provided an almost acceptable to address this problem. Indeed, it is possible to be reimbursed for its Windows license at a later (and only Windows, not other software pre-installed) for an amount that I consider "correct" ... I started this process a week ago and ... it will be the subject of a future article;)
